Liverpool continue to be linked with Alexander Isak with transfers still possible after the start of the Premier League season this weekend.

There is still a lack of clarity over which way the saga cold go this month.

With that, the ECHO rounds up the latest transfer news and rumours on the wantaway Newcastle United striker.

According to The Telegraph, as of Wednesday Newcastle's board of directors still have no intention of granting Isak's wish of a departure from Newcastle..

Since before the summer transfer window opened the North East club have not wished to entertain transfer talks and they want to keep it this way in the two-and-a-half weeks that remain.

At the same time, they will be wary that there is not necessarily any suggestion Isak will back down and return to playing.

Even if he does, there is no indicator that he would 'be the same player for them he has been for the last three years'.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, presenting on the radio station talkSPORT, believed it will be possible for Isak to rejoin Eddie Howe's squad and rebuild broken relationships if he is not sold before the transfer deadline.

The 48-year-old was explaining his similar situation when attempting to leave Charlton Athletic in 2006.

"Sometimes you have to go to that extreme.

"The big problem he’s got, Isak, by acting like this - or any other player - if Isak then reintegrates you’ve got this mountain, which is the fans, to get back on-side.

"The reality is it’s a World Cup year, he’s not gonna spend a season [on the sidelines].

"If the deadline goes and he doesn’t move, he’s gonna play.

If a brilliant player comes back into the fold and he’s not gone anywhere, you want him back in the team."

As reported by the ECHO earlier in August, Liverpool have not returned with a second attempt for Isak after an initial £110m offer was rejected by Newcastle.

It is understood that the nature of the offer being turned down by the Magpies caused Liverpool to believe a second is futile as things stand.

But, there are plenty of moving pieces in this ongoing saga and should their rivals' stance change closer to the September 1 deadline, the Reds could alter their thinking too.
