Liverpool will be keeping a close eye on events on Tyneside as Alexander Isak's future at Newcastle United becomes increasingly clear.

As reported by the ECHO's sister site, Chronicle Live, it had been the wantaway Liverpool transfer target's instruction to train alone in light of recent events and it also meant that he missed a barbecue held for the players, staff and their families.

The striker was also set to meet face-to-face with manager Eddie Howe for the first time since the squad arrived back from their pre-season tour of Asia, which Isak had missed due to a minor thigh injury.

Howe was hoping to gain a better perspective of the situation, with the 25-year-old's fitness unclear ahead of Newcastle's friendlies at St.

James' Park this coming weekend, against Espanyol on Friday and Atletico Madrid on Saturday.

Liverpool Echo has taken a look at the latest news Isak having been exiled from first-team training and the transfer saga unresolved.

Sky Sports report a second bid is being readied and Newcastle are braced for one to arrive, eight days out from the start of Liverpool's next Premier League campaign.

The Magpies are reportedly maintaining their £150m valuation of Isak.

Liverpool saw their opening £110m offer rejected last Friday and the ECHO understands the Reds have not yet made a second attempt.

Almost one week has passed since their opening offer and the Reds are keeping an eye on what is unfolding in the North East.

Anfield chiefs are aware of Newcastle's attempts to sign a striker to replace Isak, and it has been reported the Swedish international is unlikely to be sold until a suitable replacement has been found.

There has been a breakthrough in that regard, though not for Newcastle as it is reported top target Benjamin Sesko is leaning towards Manchester United, who have now tabled a £74m bid.

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson believes Arne Slot and Co.

will not win the Premier League for a second season running if they do not complete the purchase of Isak before the transfer deadline.
