Multiple reports have suggested that Alexander Isak remains intent on securing a switch to Liverpool in the final days of the summer window.

This comes after it was said a delegation from Newcastle majority stakeholders, PIF, including chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and co-owner Jamie Reuben, met with the striker for final crisis talks.

Key Magpies' figures were claimed to have spoken with Isak in person before attending the Premier League game between the club and Liverpool at St James' Park on Monday night.

The Daily Mail explained their intention was to convince him to end his protest to leave before next Monday's transfer deadline and reintegrate into Eddie Howe's squad - and there may even have been an improved contract on the cards.

But as had been alluded to earlier by the ECHO's sister site, The Chronicle, Isak has emphatically rejected this latest advance, doubling down by repeating his desire to be allowed to move to Anfield.

The Telegraph say the meeting had the opposite of the desired effect for Newcastle.

The Sweden frontman is still keeping up his strike and, therefore, is likely to sit out the coming weekend's fixture against Leeds United, just as he did the previous games against Aston Villa and Liverpool.

The claim of the outcome to these last-ditch talks from Newcastle has been backed by reporters Craig Hope and Fabrizio Romano.

Isak will not stop his effort until, either he gets his dream move to the Premier League champions, or the transfer window closes.

Therefore, the onus is partly placed on Liverpool to table an offer that their rivals are willing to listen to.

The Reds previously put up a flat £110m, which was rejected at the start of August with St James' Park chiefs wanting closer to £150m, it has been said.

No follow up has been made since then, but The Telegraph indicate that will likely change when the club 'receive encouragement' from the Newcastle board.

Even if they submit a British record sum, they are not expected to match their target's full valuation.

Isak's move before the deadline will also hinge on his club being able to recruit players in his place.

Alex Crook from talkSPORT has added: "I still think we will see another bid from Liverpool, a British record offer, between now and next Monday.

I think that they going to test Newcastle's resolve and we know Newcastle are firing darts in terms of strikers into the club.

"They are still keen to sign [Yoane] Wissa.

"They had a bid rejected for [Jorgen Strand] Larsen, but sources up in the Midlands - at Molineux - now expect a follow up offer.

"They have also been offered the chance to sign Dusan Vlahovic.

"If they can get a couple of strikers in, or certainly at least one striker, I feel they could be a twist in the Isak tale."

Until that happens, Newcastle will carry on refusing to do business with Liverpool.

The final call will be made by Saudi Arabia's PIF, of which Al-Rumayyan is the most senior figure.
