The Newcastle United striker could receive an unexpected boost from Magpies target Yoane Wissa, who has recently issued a remarkable statement.Wissa has been eager for a switch to St James' Park all summer, but Brentford have so far rebuffed Newcastle's approaches.
Should Newcastle manage to finalise another deal, the opportunity would seemingly remain available, with the money raised from Isak's departure helping fund their own transfer pursuit.
Wissa, 28, has just one-year remaining on his contract.
The striker hopes his recent actions will force Brentford into making a decision.
Read Wissa's full statement below:
"I have stayed silent for much of the summer, but with just hours remaining of the transfer window I feel compelled make it clear that I want to leave Brentford," Wissa wrote.
I have continued to communicate openly with the club and conduct myself in a way that reflects my values as both a footballer and a human being.
"I remain hopeful that a fair and reasonable resolution can still be found before the transfer window shuts.
It's already been a busy summer for the Premier League champions but they could still pull off a couple of blockbuster signings as the window comes to a close.
Alexander Isak's future remains unresolved, with the striker refusing to play or train for Newcastle United.
Liverpool remain interested in a deal for the Swede.
Meanwhile, Marc Guehi has been a player of interest all summer and Liverpool could still launch a last-minute deal for the Crystal Palace defender.
