One of the summer's most thrilling transfer sagas waits on standby as Liverpool weigh up the next act.

The source of their interest is Alexander Isak and with Newcastle United the controlling power, it now comes down to finding the perfect moment make a second play.

The first - a £110m offer tabled last Friday - was rejected without a second thought from Liverpool's rivals.

Anfield chiefs have chosen to not immediately return with an improved amount but instead watch the landscape change in the coming weeks before taking long-standing interest in the 25-year-old to yet another level.

Newcastle do not want to be left short changed in allowing one striker to leave and not have another come into the club before September 1's transfer deadline, if not the start of the new season.

With that, the ECHO collects the latest transfer news and rumours taking a focus on Isak and his potential move;

Appearing on BBC Radio 5 Live, journalist David Ornstein from The Athletic has explained how Newcastle seem to be increasingly resigned to parting ways with Isak.

"I think it has come to the point where Newcastle understand a deal might have to be done, provided they get the right financial offer," he began.

"And I suspect they probably will considering Liverpool's apparent commitment to this and Isak's determination, but the PIF (Newcastle ownership) will not roll over regarding this, they'll want the circumstances to be right for them and that involves a high quality replacement coming in for them.

The first choice is Benjamin Sesko, but the issue with that is competition from Manchester United and the financial package.

"If they don't get someone in I don't see how they will be willing to release Isak, however, there are four weeks so there is time and scope for a replacement to be sorted and for Newcastle to accept an offer, providing that it is at the right financial level.

"Newcastle didn't want to be in this position but Isak's representatives have made it clear to Newcastle that they would be departing this summer so for all parties a solution needs to be found, as this situation cannot continue."

An, on the task of signing a possible replacement for Isak, Craig Hope from The Daily Mail has reported good news for the Tyneside club and, therefore, seemingly by extension, Liverpool in their own chase.

The Magpies are now 'pushing harder' to sign Sesko from RB Leipzig, after receiving encouragement that the striker wants to join Eddie Howe's team ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Nothing is certain and United's interest still remains - applying pressure to the situation - but the idea that Sesko is open to this move means St.

James' Park chiefs are doing all they can to wrap this up swiftly.

In this report, it states that Isak remains 'intent' on moving to Anfield and the Reds will, supposedly, oblige with an improved offer once their rivals have lined-up a replacement.
