Alexander Isak has been the subject of interest from Liverpool this summer, with the Reds willing to offer £130m for the 25-year-old.

However, the Magpies have no intentions of selling the Sweden international, prompting Liverpool to shift their focus to Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, who is close to moving to Anfield.

Isak’s agent Gonzalo Gaitan recently provided an update on his future to Saudi Arabian newspaper Arriyadiyah, with the forward also attracting interest from clubs in the Gulf state.

“We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player,” Gaitan said.

“Without revealing any details regarding whether Isak will transfer or stay with Newcastle.”

Isak, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for £60m, is reportedly seeking £300,000-a-week to commit his future to the club.

Despite reports of Isak’s contract demands, the striker was seen training alone on Tuesday.

As it stands, Liverpool have not made a formal approach to sign Isak.

Manager Eddie Howe holds the belief that Alexander Isak will still be a Newcastle player next season.

“No, there’s been no formal approach,” he said.

He loves the players that he plays with, the staff, the team.

“I’ve never had any issue with him other than I’m really enjoying seeing his talent and seeing him express himself.

Your top players are so hard to find, they’re so hard to recruit, they’re so hard to develop and make them into those players.

“So when you have them, you need to treasure him.

We are of course desperate to keep him part of our team.”

Speaking in an interview with BBC Radio Newcastle, Howe claimed that Isak would travel with Newcastle for their pre-season tour of the Far East.

“Yes, absolutely.

He’s an outstanding talent and a player we cherish.

“I think for any player speculation’s not an easy thing to deal with, and not an easy thing to understand, when you’re fielding calls and messages from players and people asking you all sorts.”
