Alexander Isak has been instructed to train alone by Newcastle United as his future with the club was cast into further doubt.

The Sweden international has informed the Magpies of his desire to move on this summer with Liverpool his preferred destination of choice.

The Reds had an offer worth £110m turned down by Newcastle on Friday with it understood that club bosses considered it futile to return with an improved bid given the swiftness and clarity of the rejection.

But with the Magpies continuing to pursue new attacking recruits and Isak now made to train alone, he looks increasingly unlikely to remain at St.

James’ Park beyond the summer.

Newcastle reported back to the club’s Darsley Park base on Wednesday for the first time since their pre-season tour of the Far East, having landed back in the United Kingdom on Monday.

Isak did not travel with the Magpies for their pre-season tour of the Far East, after sitting out their pre-season friendly at Celtic, with his absence put down to a minor thigh injury.

However, it later emerged he had asked the club to be allowed to explore opportunities to leave, before travelling to Spain to train alone at the facilities of former club Real Sociedad.

Isak returned to the UK over the weekend, but he has now been told by Newcastle to report for training on his own and then get treatment on his thigh injury.

The striker was absent when the Magpies reported back for team training on Wednesday morning, with Isak instead ordered to report to Darsley Park in the afternoon.

And his arrival to the club’s training base will come after a social event organised by manager Eddie Howe.

The Newcastle boss held a barbecue for players’ families and staff after training, but Sky Sports have reported that Isak was told to report to the training ground following its conclusion.

The forward's banishment from the group comes after he was issued with a stern warning by Howe ahead of Newcastle’s return to England.

"He’s like any other player, we would expect him to come in and train as normal,” the Magpies boss said after his side’s friendly with Tottenham Hotspur in South Korea.

No player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal."

Howe had also admitted that he did not know whether Isak would return to team training following his side’s return to England.

The Magpies will conclude their pre-season schedule by facing La Liga outfits Espanyol and Atletico Madrid on Friday and Saturday.

With Howe having now followed through on his warning about players having to earn the right to train with the Newcastle squad, Isak’s future with the club appears more precarious than ever.

Liverpool continue to monitor the Swede’s situation following their rejected bid, while they could soon sign off on departures of their own with Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott holding talks with Al-Hilal and RB Leipzig respectively.

The Reds have already banked over £145m from player sales this summer, with Tyler Morton the latest exit after he completed a £15m switch to Lyon on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have committed to spending £295m on their eight new arrivals and counting, with record-signing Florian Wirtz the costliest purchase so far.

But if the Reds are to return to the negotiating table for Isak, they will have to break the British transfer record with their outlay poised to climb to well over £400m as a result.

Newcastle currently look set to be left disappointed in their pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, with reports suggesting he instead favours a switch to Manchester United.

The Magpies have already missed out on Hugo Ekitike, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer while trying to bolster their attacking ranks.

It has been suggested that they could now switch attention to Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, while still pursuing Brentford star Yoane Wissa.

Once Newcastle sign a new forward, it is anticipated that such an arrival would have a knock-on effect when it comes to deciding Isak’s future and own possible exit.
