Three days away from the start of the Premier League season and Liverpool remain locked in one of the hottest transfer sagas of the summer.

It is still unclear whether Alexander Isak will complete a move or stay at Newcastle United before the impending September 1 cut-off.

Isak was subject of a formal bid from Liverpool, almost two weeks ago, worth £110m and their rivals immediately rejected it.

The Premier League champions have not made any follow-up to this while the striker is being ordered to stay away from Eddie Howe's first-team training sessions.

Therefore, it is a tense situation over a player who many expect Newcastle will only allow to go for a substantial British-record transfer fee.

While it all plays out, meanwhile, the CIES Football Observatory have freshly updated their estimated transfer values for players globally - Isak included.

The Switzerland-based study uses a statistical model to estimate a player's value and considers factors such as player performance, age, contract length, international status and the level they play.

At most, they reckon Liverpool target Isak is worth €113m (£97.4m).

This is already almost £13m less than the opening offer the Reds saw rejected earlier this month.

But a new estimate from CIES also indicates a marginal reduction in Isak's top estimated value as, last month, the same study presented the figure at €114m (£98.3m).

Around £900k may seem like a trivial amount in the context of a deal potentially worth over £110m, but this could the start of a slippery slope for Newcastle.

With player performance considered, before any transfer is explored, the Magpies could, ultimately, stand to lose out on millions if Isak truly does not wish to train or play for the club anymore.

That is reportedly what the 25-year-old has informed Newcastle will happen even if they do not give in to his sale.

In a dramatic twist, Isak has also reportedly put his North East property on the rental market, suggesting he does not plan to remain there.

The summer transfer window closes on Monday, September 1 - and only reopens again in winter on Thursday, January 1, 2026.

By this point, Isak would have missed over half of the upcoming Premier League campaign, the majority of the Champions League's league phase and the earlier rounds of the Carabao Cup, too.
