Alexander Isak has found himself in a state of uncertainty, with the Newcastle forward concerned that Benjamin Sesko could thwart his dream move to Liverpool.

Manchester United have matched Newcastle's £74 million ($98.4 million) offer for RB Leipzig's striker Sesko, leaving the Slovenian to decide which club he will join.

However, if he opts for United over Newcastle, then Isak could find himself stranded with the new season just 10 days away.

Newcastle, for their part, want the situation resolved as quickly as possible.

They had hoped that United's delay in bidding for Sesko would put them in a strong position, but now both clubs have made similar offers to Leipzig, leaving the final decision up to Sesko.

Newcastle, however, are not ready to throw in the towel, despite their previous unsuccessful attempts to secure top transfer targets such as Bryan Mbeumo, Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Dean Huijsen.

Although no one within the club will openly admit it, they would prefer to have Sesko spearheading their attack rather than a discontented Isak, who has his heart set on donning Liverpool's red shirt.

The Magpies remain optimistic about signing forward Yoane Wissa, even though their two offers so far have fallen significantly short of Brentford's asking price.

They have also intensified their efforts to secure AC Milan's 23 year old centre half, Malick Thiaw.
