Unsettled Newcastle striker Alexander Isak previously revealed his ambitions to win titles, with Premier League champions Liverpool shaping up to make their move.
But maybe the clues to his future were there all along, as speaking back in March, the 25-year-old communicated his desire to land the game's biggest trophies.
Despite his commitment to the Magpies, Isak's comments indicate he may be seeking a level of success – and a deal – that the Magpies are currently unable to offer, especially given the constraints imposed by PSR (Profit and Sustainability Regulations).
"I've said many times, I don't really look too much or think too much about my future," Isak said four months back.
However, this came after an episode where Isak was sent back home before Newcastle's 4-0 pre-season loss to Celtic, as Howe felt he wasn't in the right mental state to participate due to rumours about his future.
The situation became more complex when Liverpool signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for an upfront fee of £69million – a player Newcastle had been keenly pursuing.
As one of the top strikers in the Premier League, he's also eyeing a salary that reflects his status, with reports suggesting he's aiming for over £250,000 per week.

Earlier in April, Isak's representative, Gonzalo Gaitan, spoke to Saudi Arabian outlet Arriyadiyah about the player's future, hinting at an imminent decision.
"We are indeed studying and analysing all options," Gaitan said.
"We may be close to finalising the next step for the player, without revealing any details regarding whether Isak will transfer or stay with Newcastle."

Despite Liverpool's formidable presence in the transfer market this summer, they have yet to place an offer for Isak, who still has three years remaining on his contract with Newcastle.
The Magpies have also reportedly put a £150m price tag on Isak, which means Liverpool would have to break the British transfer record by a significant amount to secure his signature.
When asked about Isak's situation this week, Howe said: "He is still our player.
