Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is currently earning significantly less than Liverpool's new signing Hugo Ekitike.
The forward netted 23 league goals for Eddie Howe's team last season and has attracted attention from the current Premier League champions.
Liverpool submitted a £110million offer that was rejected by Newcastle and the Reds are currently not planning to make a second bid until Howe's side bring in a possible replacement for Isak.
It has been reported that Isak is refusing to play for Newcastle again, although the Magpies insist that the striker is not for sale.
Premier League newcomer Ekitike joined Liverpool as part of their summer transfer spree, completing a move from Eintracht Frankfurt worth up to £79m.
Isak joined as the club's record signing in 2022 and played a key role in ending the club's 70-year wait for a domestic trophy last season by scoring in the Carabao Cup final.

It has been reported that wages were not a significant factor in Ekitike's decision to choose Liverpool over Newcastle.
However, Newcastle manager Howe has not dismissed the possibility of welcoming Isak back into his squad in the future.

"He is still our player," Howe stated earlier this summer.
The Mirror reports that Benjamin Sesko rejected a more lucrative offer from Newcastle to sign for Manchester United, where he agreed to a five-year contract worth £160,000-per-week.
Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres is also earning more than his compatriot Isak after making the move to the Gunners from Sporting Lisbon.
