Newcastle United star Alexander Isak is currently earning much less than Liverpool ’s new signing Hugo Ekitike.
The striker scored 23 league goals for Eddie Howe’s side last term and has been the subject of interest from the reigning Premier League champions.
Liverpool tabled an offer worth up to £120million for Isak but the bid was swiftly rejected by Newcastle.
Isak is reported to be refusing to play for the club again, but the Magpies maintain that the forward is not for sale.
Premier League newcomer Ekitike arrived as part of Liverpool’s transfer spree this summer, sealing a £79m move from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 23-year-old reportedly penned a six-year deal worth £250,000-per-week, earning an eye-watering £13m annually, after beating Newcastle in the race for Ekitike’s signature.

Ekitike’s wages at Liverpool will particularly sting for Isak.
However, the gulf in the pair’s salaries partly explains why Isak may feel he deserves a pay rise.

Ekitike may be earning more than double Isak’s current wage but he is not Liverpool’s top earner.
The Magpies are short of recognised strikers, with William Osula being the only other centre-forward in the squad after Callum Wilson ’s departure.

Meanwhile, Ekitike is not the only new arrival to the Premier League to be earning more than Isak.
