Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool reunion plans are facing a race against time.
Alexander-Arnold was handed an early return to Anfield after the Champions League draw which pitted Real Madrid against his boyhood club on November 4.
But the England international risks missing out on the clash with Arne Slot’s side due to being forced off just four minutes into Los Blancos’ win over Marseille.
Madrid confirmed following Tuesday that Alexander-Arnold suffered a left hamstring injury in their home win and have not provided a timeline on his lay-off period.
However reports in Spain indicate that the West Derby-born defender is expected to be sidelined for six weeks, leaving his involvement against the Reds in jeopardy.
Alexander-Arnold’s plans to depart as a free agent sparked fan backlash as he was booed when coming on in a 2-2 draw with Arsenal towards the end of last season.
Liverpool allowed the 26-year-old to leave ahead of his contract expiry to feature for Madrid in the summer’s Club World Cup with a nominal fee of €10 million brokered.
