Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has finally emerged from a troubling injury period that saw him miss crucial end-of-season matches and Argentina’s international fixtures, with the 26-year-old this week returning to full training as Arne Slot’s squad prepares for the final stages of their Asian preseason tour.
The Argentine’s fitness journey has been a source of mounting concern for Liverpool supporters, especially has the exact nature of the injury was not disclosed.
Mac Allister’s problems first became apparent during Liverpool’s title-clinching period, when what initially appeared to be minor discomfort gradually evolved into a more significant concern.
Arne Slot made the decision to rest his midfielder for the final two Premier League fixtures of the season, prioritizing long-term recovery over immediate availability.
The injury’s timing proved particularly frustrating for Mac Allister, who was subsequently omitted from Argentina’s squad for their World Cup qualifying fixtures in June against Chile and Colombia.
As Liverpool’s preseason preparations began, the 26-year-old found himself in an isolated training regime, working separately from his teammates while following a specialized rehabilitation program.
His absence was particularly noticeable during Liverpool’s open training session in Hong Kong, where over 25,000 fans watched the squad prepare but did not see their Argentine midfielder participate.
Instead, he continued working on his specialized program under the guidance of head of rehabilitation physiotherapy Lee Nobes.
This week marked a significant turning point in Mac Allister’s recovery journey, with the No.10 spotted in full team training.
Now the Liverpool man has revealed that the injury is hard to explain as he has had concerns in multiple areas”
“It has been a long time, a difficult time because it is never nice to be injured,” the No.10 told Liverpoolfc.com.
“But now I’m feeling good, it’s just about time and getting fit because they have had a good pre-season so they are definitely in a different physical shape, so I have to get used [to it] again.
But it’s nice to be out there.
“It’s hard to explain [the injury] because it’s not just one spot that you say, ‘OK, we have to focus on this.’ It’s like two or three different things that I’ve been struggling [with] for a couple of months.”
“At the end, we found the solution; we have been working a lot in the gym, on my structure.
It’s hard to explain it but as I said, now I’m feeling good and for me that’s the most important thing.”
Mac Allister also confirmed that he hopes to be fit and in contention when the Premier League kicks-off next month – and even the Community Shield if he can:
“Yeah, hopefully?
That’s the idea.”
“As I said, I need to work on my physical shape and get used again to the level of the boys.”
“But I’m feeling really, really good, training with the team and I’m pretty sure I’m going to be fine for the beginning of the season and hopefully for the [Community Shield] as well.”
