Alexis Mac Allister is expected to be part of Liverpool's pre-season tour to the Far East despite having not played a game for more than two months.

Mac Allister hasn't featured since the 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal in mid-May after sitting out the final two games of the Premier League season to nurse a long-standing injury issue.

The 26-year-old was also ruled out of Argentina's World Cup qualifying double header against Chile and Colombia in June, and was among a group of senior players who didn't appear in Liverpool's opening pre-season friendly at Preston North End last Sunday.

Mac Allister remained on the sidelines when the Reds played a behind-closed-doors warm-up match against Championship side Stoke City at the AXA Training Centre at Kirkby on Sunday afternoon.

Mac Allister has largely been training separately from his team-mates so far this pre-season as he continues to focus on rehabilitation.

But the ECHO understands Liverpool fully anticipate Mac Allister to be among the squad that jets out to Hong Kong later on Sunday for the first leg of their summer tour.

The Reds take on AC Milan next Saturday before moving on to Japan where they will face Yokohama F Marinos the following Wednesday.

Speaking earlier this summer, Mac Allister addressed his fitness issues and said: "I've had some issues throughout the year.

"It's not a major injury; it's a minor one, but it's better to rest before it gets worse."

Liverpool end their pre-season programme with a double-header at home to Athletic Bilbao on Monday, August 4 before the Community Shield against Crystal Palace at Wembley the following Sunday.

The champions will then open the new Premier League season at home to Bournemouth on Friday, August 15.
