Alexis Mac Allister was a key player for Liverpool once again last season.
A fundamental cog in the Slot machine that stormed their way to a Premier League title, the Argentinian was given a well-deserved rest and sat out the final two Premier League games of the season to look after a long-standing injury issue.
As well as sitting out Liverpool’s final two games, he was also ruled out of Argentina’s two World Cup qualifying games in June, as he gave all his focus to healing up for the new season.
Tirelessly available throughout the season, it appeared that it took a toll on his body, and so far during pre-season he has focus on individual training sessions to aid his rehabilitation.
Fast forward to today, and Mac Allister has now missed two of Liverpool’s opening pre-season fixtures, after sitting out the game today as Liverpool took on Stoke City in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Stoke at the AXA Training Centre.
Despite sitting out of this one, Ian Doyle has confirmed that he will be joining the squad that departs for Hong Kong tonight, ahead of their fixture against AC Milan next week.
The Reds take on the Serie A side in Hong Kong next Saturday before flying to Japan to face Yokohama F Marinos the following Wednesday.
Confirmation that Alexis Mac Allister will take part in the pre-season tour will be welcomed news by Liverpool fans, who have come to love the combative midfielder over his two years at the club.
Signed for an initial £35m, Mac Allister has gone on to build on the success he endured at Brighton, and has become a key part of Arne Slot, after also playing well under Jurgen Klopp during the 2023/24 season.
Speaking on the injury towards the end of last season, Alexis Mac Allister said:
“I’ve had some issues throughout the year.
It’s not a major injury; it’s a minor one, but it’s better to rest before it gets worse.”
It appears that Mac Allister has got the rest he desired as he is set to join the squad in Asia and take part, building himself up to match fitness ahead of the new season.
