Liverpool signed Alexis Mac Allister in the summer of 2023, and the Argentine has thrived since joining from Brighton.
During his four years at Brighton, Mac Allister made 112 appearances and established himself in Argentina’s senior squad.
He played a key role as Argentina won the World Cup 2022, beating Ibrahima Konate’s France in the final.
Brighton’s majority owner, Tony Bloom, has admitted that he regrets letting Mac Allister leave for Liverpool.
“Well, in the last five years we’ve sold some top players who are playing at really big clubs and doing fantastically well,” he said during a Q&A session with fans on the Seagulls’ YouTube channel.
“It’s tough to name one of those players, but I guess I’d pick Alexis, who I wish was still at the club.
He did (win the Premier League) after winning the World Cup while a Brighton player.
“And good luck to him?
He’s a brilliant player, a brilliant person, and I’m just delighted for him.”
In 97 appearances for Liverpool, he has contributed 14 goals and 14 assists, helping the club win the Premier League and League Cup over two seasons.
His standout performances in last season’s title-winning campaign earned him a spot in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, speaking on midfield quality, described Mac Allister as the second-best midfielder in the world – a compliment that left the Argentine visibly surprised and highlights his impact at Anfield.
“It’s really, really special coming from Steven,” Mac Allister said to ESPN UK.
“As you said, coming from a legend of Liverpool, we all love him and we all appreciate these sorts of things
I didn’t expect it but it’s really good.”
