Alexis Mac Allister hasn’t featured in pre-season for Liverpool so far, as he has been recovering from an ongoing injury issue picked up last season.

The Argentinian sat out the final two Premier league games of the season to prioritise his rehabilitation.

He also missed Argentina’s summer World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia.

It was clear that Alexis Mac Allister prioritised his team over his physical health towards the end of last season, as he was very open in admitting that he had been struggling with pain for a while.

He said towards the end of last season: “I’ve had some issues throughout the year.

It’s not a major injury; it’s a minor one, but it is better to rest before it gets worse.”

Even whilst in pain, he was crucial to Liverpool’s title win, playing a key role in that historic day that Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 to be confirmed as Premier League champions after he scored the goal to put the Reds 2-1 up at the time.

Mac Allister was included in Liverpool’s travelling squad to Hong Kong, a clear indication that his return to action was near.

Despite missing Liverpool’s game in Hong Kong, as Liverpool lost 4-2 to AC Milan, the midfielder is now in contention to play in Japan against Yokohama F.

Marinos.

Lewis Steele reported that Alexis Mac Allister has returned to full training with Liverpool, after recovering from a long-term injury sustained in the back end of last season and is in contention to play in Japan.

Great news for Arne Slot and his team, as he will want his key players to get back up to match fitness ahead of Liverpool’s first chance at silverware on 10th August.

The new Premier League champions will face off against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace in the Community Shield and Alexis Mac Allister will be eager to be in the starting lineup that day.

It is likely that he will be eased into action on Wednesday as Arne Slot won’t want to take any risks.

The best bet is that he will come on as a second-half substitute, before he is given more consistent minutes before the start of the new campaign.
