He said towards the end of last season: “I’ve had some issues throughout the year.

It’s not a major injury; it’s a minor one, but it is better to rest before it gets worse.”

Even whilst in pain, he was crucial to Liverpool’s title win, playing a key role in that historic day that Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 to be confirmed as Premier League champions after he scored the goal to put the Reds 2-1 up at the time.
