Alexis Mac Allister has revealed how the Liverpool squad reacted to the transfer saga involving Alexander Isak during the summer window.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak dominated headlines throughout the summer, with Newcastle’s firm public stance that the striker was not for sale prolonging negotiations.

The Sweden international eventually went on strike, was frozen out of the squad, and even released a statement claiming trust had been lost.

It was only on deadline day that he finally sealed a move to Anfield in a £125million deal.

Alexander Isak made his debut against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, marking his first start since May.

He showed early signs of building a promising connection with Florian Wirtz during his 58-minute appearance.

His arrival came as part of a major summer spending spree on Merseyside, balanced by a string of high-profile departures, with the Reds selling Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott, Ben Doak, Tyler Morton, Jarell Quansah, and Caoimhin Kelleher.

For many supporters, the transfer saga had been a drawn-out and exhausting affair, and Alexis Mac Allister admitted that even within the Liverpool squad, players had grown weary of how long it dragged on.

“At the beginning, it was a big thing, maybe, and after we got a little bit tired of it because it was too long!” Mac Allister told TNT Sports?

“But we all know the player he is, and I think he’s going to be really, really important, and we are happy to have him here.

“Maybe the other club is not happy, but that’s the way football works and, in the end, they paid quite a lot of money, so I think it’s good for both clubs.

“It’s good for him because at the end it’s what he wanted and we are so happy to have him because we know the player he is, and we suffered [because of] him a couple of times as well!”
