Brazil is blessed with the choice of two world-class goalkeepers: Liverpool’s Alisson Becker and Manchester City’s Ederson.
There is no doubt that Alisson could beat the record that has stood for over 20 years and it would not surprise many if Brazil lift the trophy after setting a new World Cup record in the process.
A clean sheet against Cameroon and Switzerland would take Alisson to three clean sheets, which is significant as he would be close to the World Cup record for clean sheets since 2002 held by Germany’s Manuel Neuer, who kept four in 2014.
On paper, these look like routine games for one of the World Cup favourites who can easily brush aside most of the sides at this tournament.
The Seleção kicked off their World Cup campaign with a smooth 2-0 victory despite the threat of Serbia’s pragmatic football and their towering forward Aleksandar Mitrovi? leaping over defenders and causing a lot of trouble throughout the tie.
It certainly seems like Alisson (and Fabinho, who is also in the Brazil squad, but is yet to feature) is the best Liverpool hope of winning the trophy.
Alisson saw little action against the Serbians who did not manage to complete a single shot on target as they were halted by the likes of Chelsea’s Thiago Silva and PSG’s Marquinhos who provided solid, experienced support at the back.
