The Reds goalkeeping department is undergoing some change this summer, but you feel as if Alisson’s future at the club should be certain.
Alisson Becker is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has shown that once again this season.
The Brazilian was side-lined for 127 days this season, but when he returned to fitness, he was crucial in securing Liverpool’s second Premier League title in five years.
Caoimhin Kelleher was once again brilliant in Alisson’s absence, with the highest compliment being the Brazilian wasn’t missed as much as he could’ve been, but Liverpool’s No.2 has now signed for Brentford on a permanent basis.
Giorgi Mamadarshvili is seen as Liverpool’s future between the sticks, as he joins from Valencia as an already established goalkeeper but will most likely stay as a No.2 whilst Alisson remains at the club.
Alisson has now been at Liverpool for seven years and has been an integral part of Liverpool’s success during that time.
Signing a new contract back in 2021 to extend his stay on Merseyside to 2026, he expects the club to extend his contract once that current deal ends.
As reported by O Globo, he said: “I’ve never been able to plan long term.
Obviously now I have one year left on my contract and another year of club option, which they will probably exercise.”
Alisson Becker is 32-years-old and why he expects to stay at Liverpool past 2026, he has outlined one wish he has before he retires, and as he was questioned on whether he wanted to join other Brazilians such as Neymar and Philippe Coutinho in re-joining their boyhood clubs, he admitted his wish to re-join the club where it all started – Internacional in Brazil.
“I talk to athletes who have made this move to return, some have had good experiences, others not.”
“Each one will have their own experience, but I want to return, especially to Inter.
That’s what I have planned.”
So for the immediate future Alisson’s commitment to Liverpool is confirmed, but he will consider a move back to Brazil as he moves through his thirties.
If he was to return back to Brazil, he will leave as one of the very best goalkeepers the club have ever employed.
