Liverpool may have pulled off a transfer masterstroke this summer after new signing Giorgi Mamardashvili was named among the Yashin Trophy nominees.

The award, presented alongside the the Ballon d'Or, recognises the best goalkeeper in the world and is named after former Soviet Union goalkeeper Lev Yashin.

The Brazilian won the inaugural Yashin Trophy in 2019, was runner-up for the award in 2022 and has twice been named in the FIFA FIFPRO Men's World 11.

Georgia international Mamardashivili, still just 23, is the youngest goalkeeper among this year's nominees and would seem to offer Arne Slot a very good option for the future.

Liverpool's current first choice only recently committed his future to the club too.

The former Roma goalkeeper has a contract that runs until 2026, with an option in place for a further year.
