Jamie Carragher reckons England boss Gareth Southgate already had one eye on a potential quarter-final against France as he chose his team for their 3-0 win over Wales.

Southgate made four changes for their match against Wales with Rashford, Foden, Kyle Walker and Jordan Henderson replacing Kieran Trippier, Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka in the starting XI.

Carragher wrote in the Daily Telegraph: “All hail Gareth Southgate.

The Three Lions comfortably saw off Wales on Tuesday night with a brilliant Marcus Rashford brace coming either side of a Phil Foden tap-in.

“This is a small example of how Southgate’s mind works, and how meticulous his planning.” READ MORE: ‘Gareth Southgate is a Godsend for England’ as his critics are quiet after Wales win

And Carragher has heaped praise on the England boss for getting “it right again” following criticism of their performance in a 0-0 draw against the United States last week.

For England to make the semi finals they are going to have to play France and Kylian Mbappe at some point.
