Manuel Akanji has agreed a deadline day move to join Inter Milan from Man City despite interest from Crystal Palace in the centre-back.
The Switzerland international joined the Sky Blues in the summer of 2022 and went on to make 136 appearances in all competitions for Pep Guardiola‘s side.
However, Akanji has fallen out of favour at the Etihad this season and had been expected to leave the club this window after failing to make an appearance in City’s opening three games of the season.
The 30-year-old’s departure will allow Abdukodir Khusanov a path to more first-team involvement following his move from RC Lens in January this year.
Crystal Palace showed an interest in Akanji, with Marc Guehi looking set to join Liverpool, but they will need to focus on alternative options after the ex-Borussia Dortmund defender agreed a deal to join Italian giants Inter.

Akanji will head to Milan to join up with Cristian Chivu’s side as they look to claim the Serie A title, having finished second behind Napoli last season.
Last season’s beaten Champions League finalists are two games into their season and lost against Udinese 2-1 on Sunday, 31 August.

As revealed by Fabrizio Romano on X, Akanji will join Inter on loan for an initial €2million (£1.7m) fee with his wages being covered by the Italian side.
The deal also includes a buy option of €15m (£13m), which will become an obligation if the defender plays at least 50% of the Nerazzuri’s games this campaign, and if Chivu’s side wins the league.
Football Insider Verdict
If the opening three games of this season are anything to go by, the Sky Blues could be in trouble defensively.
Rayan Ait-Nouri joined from Wolves this summer, and his signing looked to be just what Guardiola needed at left-back.
But whilst the Algerian has provided an offensive threat, the backline as a whole looks shaky and unconfident.

Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes are struggling to assert themselves at right-back, whilst Guardiola has already used Khusanov, John Stones, and Ruben Dias at centre-back this season, with none of that trio impressing.
City have lost to Brighton and Tottenham already this season and if they are to have any hopes of knocking Liverpool from their perch, their Catalan manager will need to work his magic on an ailing back line that seems unlikely to be boosted in the transfer market this summer.
