The transfer window is now in full swing after Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy on Sunday.
With no more games left to play – and no summer international tournament this year – clubs are already moving to get targets in nice and early.
Liverpool have been one of the most active during the first parts of the market and on Monday news broke that the Reds have made a first offer for Florian Wirtz.
Liverpool look set to beat Bayern Munich to Wirtz, in what will be a major coup for the English champions.
Having unexpectedly missed out on their top target, there have been rumours that Bayern could target Man United captain Bruno Fernandes.
However, according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Munich giants also have their eye on Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo.

Wirtz’s addition, if it goes through, looks likely to be the first step in a major upheaval of Liverpool’s forward line this summer.
Darwin Nunez is set to be sold, with question marks also arising over the futures of Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa.

Along with Mohamed Salah, Gakpo had looked to be the one attacker immune from transfer whisperings this summer.
However, Plettenberg took to X on Monday to claim Bayern are considering a move for the Dutchman and have already been in touch with Liverpool.
“FC Bayern are now also considering Cody Gakpo in their search for a high-profile left winger!” says the journalist.

“The 26 y/o Dutchman is on the shortlist behind Kaoru Mitoma and Rafael Leao.
There has already been contact regarding Gakpo – and still is.
Max Eberl likes him.”
Most surprisingly, Plettenberg claims that Reds boss Arne Slot would consider selling Gakpo if a ‘suitable’ offer comes in.
“Gakpo is considered a potential departure candidate at FC Liverpool if a suitable offer arrives,” he says.
“Contract until 2028.”
There is clearly no way Liverpool can sanction the sale of all of their forwards this summer.
It just isn’t happening.

Nevertheless, the fact that there is a conversation to be had over all of them barring Salah illustrates just what a rebuild Liverpool could potentially be in for.
As things stand, it would seem more likely that Diaz, Jota or Chiesa would leave ahead of Gakpo.
But if Bayern are willing to push hard to get the 26-year-old, then it’s impossible to say that Liverpool will turn them down.
The ball is very much in the Bundesliga champions’ court on this one, so we’ll have to wait and see the next steps.
