Ruben Amorim’s position at Man United is still under threat despite picking up his first win of the season, according to their former scout.
Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that there are ongoing doubts about the 40-year-old’s role.
There are concerns that the last-minute 3-2 win against Burnley has only papered over the cracks after they came perilously close to a “disastrous” result.
Brown told Football Insider on 2 September that Amorim was a “disgrace” on the touchline against Burnley, adding to the criticism surrounding his tenure.
Amorim sat with his head down unable to watch as Bruno Fernandes stepped up to the spot, while the same was seen during the penalty shoot-out defeat to Grimsby.
While the United board are unlikely to sack the manager as things stand, “major” improvements are needed to make his position secure amid growing pressure.

Football Insider revealed on 31 August that Amorim’s job at United is safe despite the embarrassing defeat to Grimsby, but pressure remains to grow on the boss.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson at Old Trafford, insisted that Amorim remains under pressure and must build on their result against Burnley.
“A win is a win, at the end of the day,” he told Football Insider.
“But I don’t think anybody will take confidence in the manager from a 3-2 win when you’ve dominated the game and end up relying on a penalty in the last minute.
“It’s not the type of result which makes you think they’ll be able to build on it.
“That is what he needs to do, he needs to put a string of results together and maintain their form.
“They need to continue winning games, that’s how you ease the pressure.

“After the international break, it’s Man City and then they’ve got Chelsea after that, so it won’t get easier.
“It’s very easy to start the season and before you know where you are you’ve lost three or four games, and all of a sudden you’re tumbling down the table.
“At the moment, he’s just papering over the cracks, but a win against Burnley isn’t enough to convince people you’ve turned a corner.
“Those Man City and Chelsea games are going to be big for him.
“I don’t necessarily think they’ll sack him even if he loses those games, because at this point it’s to be expected, but more questions will be asked.”
Amid speculation about Amorim’s role at Old Trafford, one player who he made the call to get rid of is Christian Eriksen, who remains a free agent as things stand.
Football Insider revealed on 7 September that Eriksen is likely to join a new club “soon” with a number of Premier League and European clubs interested in him.

Eriksen has been training with Malmo in Sweden in a bid to keep up his fitness ahead of his next move as he remains keen to play at the highest level in Europe.
Meanwhile, Eriksen turned down a move to Wrexham in July as he aims to continue his career in the top flight despite the Red Dragons’ ambitious plans for the future.
