Andre Onana is preparing himself for further competition as Man United push to sign Royal Antwerp talent Senne Lammens.
Man United fans were fuming with Onana following their shock Carabao Cup defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town, having failed to save three simple penalties during a shootout.
Ruben Amorim appears to be in a race against time to turn his fortunes around at Old Trafford, especially after Erik ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen fired a brutal dig at Man United.
Several goalkeepers have been linked with the Red Devils over the last few weeks, including Man City-linked Gianluigi Donnarumma, but it appears Lammens will be the next arrival.
The 23-year-old has made 64 appearances for Antwerp since joining on a free transfer two summers ago, with his performances earning him a call-up to the Belgium national team in June.
Despite his talents in between the sticks, Onana has no plans to back down.

Sources close to Onana revealed to iNews (29 August) that the goalkeeper already feels he has competition from Altay Bayindir, so Lammens’ arrival at Old Trafford will not faze him.

The Cameroon international has no plans to search for a new club ahead of the 1 September deadline, even with the impending signing of Royal Antwerp’s first-choice shot-stopper.
Football Insider verdict
Amorim has already thrown shade over his own future at Man United, admitting that he sometimes thinks about quitting at Old Trafford after yet another embarrassing defeat to Grimsby.
While not all of his problems come down to having an inept goalkeeper in between the sticks, Onana’s continuous mistakes clearly do not help alleviate the pressure on his shoulders.
Although Lammens is relatively inexperienced at the top level, Bayindir has not shown he has what it takes to be the number one for the Red Devils, and therefore, a new signing is needed.

Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko have revamped the forward line, and once they gel together, United should have far fewer troubles in front of goal.
Another defensive signing probably would have made sense for Amorim, but with Noussair Mazraoui nearing a return to fitness, he will be a huge boost for the 2025/26 campaign.
The loss to Grimsby appears to be yet another brutal setback for the 20-time Premier League champions, but the manager will still be backing himself to turn his fortunes around this season.
