Andy Robertson says he and his Liverpool teammates are currently not preoccupied with the possibility of Arne Slot assuming the managerial role at the club.
On Friday, reports surfaced regarding an agreement between Liverpool and Feyenoord for Slot to take the helm at Anfield at the conclusion of the season.
Slot had emerged as the prime candidate to succeed Jurgen Klopp, who is set to depart this summer after nearly nine years in charge.
Negotiations between Liverpool and Feyenoord ensued in recent days to settle on compensation terms for Slot, as his contract lacked a release clause.
The Reds finalized compensation reaching up to £9.4m (€11m) for the Dutchman, paving the way for his anticipated appointment as the club’s next manager.
Less than 24 hours later, Liverpool resumed Premier League action against West Ham United at the London Stadium.
When questioned about the latest developments regarding Slot’s impending tenure, Robertson redirected the focus to the tasks remaining in Klopp’s final weeks at the helm.
“It’s obviously something that we can’t focus on now,” Robertson told TNT Sports when asked about Slot joining Liverpool this summer.
“There has been a lot of talk in the last couple of days and it looks like it’s nearly finalised, if not finalised?
“But we have to focus on this season and focus on trying to give this manager [Klopp] our all till the end and give him the farewell he deserves with what he has done for this club.
“That is what us, as players, have to focus on and we will focus on the new era when it comes to it in the summer.”
Slot is set to be appointed as Liverpool’s new head coach, marking a departure from the traditional British football club structure as Anfield prepares for the change.
The 45-year-old is anticipated to be content with that status, given his coaching experience aligns with the head coach/sporting director model.
He led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in the 2022-23 season and this season, they have secured the Dutch Cup and are on track to finish second in their league.
Slot will be joined at Anfield by Sipke Hulshoff, his assistant coach at Feyenoord, as well as Ruben Peeters, their head of performance.
Liverpool’s decision to appoint Slot is believed to be influenced by his attacking style of play, his leadership qualities, and his adeptness at player development.
Slot assumed the role of Feyenoord manager in 2021 and had previously expressed interest in managing in the Premier League when he was linked with Tottenham in 2023.
