Andy Robertson has emerged as a shock transfer target for Atletico Madrid, with reports indicating the left-back is under consideration by the Spanish club.

The Scotland captain's long-term future remains uncertain at Liverpool following an underwhelming 2024/25 season.

Milos Kerkez's expected arrival from Bournemouth means that for the first time since joining the Reds in 2017, Robertson may not be first-choice left-back next season.

Remarkably, he is now being linked with an unlikely move to the Spanish capital, on the other side of the Madrid rivalry to his former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.

On Saturday, Fabrizio Romano, claimed via X that Robertson is being seriously considered by Atletico.

"Atletico Madrid top target at left back is Andy Robertson, appreciated internally as ideal candidate," claimed the social media figure.

"Not an easy deal at Liverpool rate him highly even with Kerkez due to join the club soon.

Atléti have Robertson higher than Theo [Hernandez] on their shortlist at LB so far."

Robertson has referenced on several occasions his desire to remain at Liverpool beyond this summer, even if the club brings in a new left-back, with the 31-year-old recently acknowledging he isn't oblivious to reports of the Reds' interest in Kerkez.

He has just one year left on his contract and admitted in an interview this week that he is considering his future plans.

"We have discussed it, of course we have," Robertson said.

"We've had good discussions with me and the club but what the future holds I am not sure.

"You know all I know is tomorrow I fly off on holiday and it is well needed.

I never have done that so I am not going to start doing that now.

"I know the position I am in and I have only got a year left and a lot is getting spoken about and getting said but my full focus is on being a dad for the next couple of weeks and enjoying that time with the kids."

Robertson played 33 Premier League games as Liverpool secured the title this season, but dropped out the team on several occasions due to disappointing performances.

That included matches against Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion in the autumn, plus Champions League wins over RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen.
