Andy Robertson says he's hurting after the loss of a 'genuine, normal and real' friend in Diogo Jota.

It was announced today that the Liverpool and Portugal player and his brother Andre Silva died tragically in a car crash in Spain.

It came just ten days after Jota's wedding, which was the last time Scotland captain Robertson saw him before his death.

Robertson was close to Jota and said he even tried to claim him as Scottish during their time together at Anfield – affectionately nicknaming him 'Diogo MacJota'.

He wrote in an emotional Instagram post: "The ones I’m thinking about most right now are the family.

I’m so sorry that they have lost two such precious souls – Diogo and Andre.

"For the team and the club, we’ll try to cope with this together… however long that takes.

We used to joke he was really Irish… I’d try to claim him as Scottish, obviously.

I even called him Diogo MacJota.

"The last time I saw him was the happiest day of his life – his wedding day.
