Andy Robertson is ready to step into an emergency centre-back role if required as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp continues to grapple with an injury crisis.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are facing a battle to play again this season after suffering serious knee injuries, leaving Joel Matip as the Reds' only senior recognised centre-back.

The left-back, though, returned to play 90 minutes in his country's 1-0 defeat in Israel on Wednesday and, speaking to, he said: "I feel fit, feel ready to go.

But with the Reds about to embark on an arduous run of 12 games in 42 days, the Liverpool boss is expected to heavily rotate his resources with Robertson willing to bolster the central defensive options.

"Sunday, I wasn't ready and just took a bit more time to recover from the game.

Klopp is hopeful Fabinho, who has impressed as a makeshift centre-back, will be available for Sunday's visit of Premier League leaders Leicester City having returned to training after almost a month out with a hamstring complaint.

Robertson handed Liverpool a fitness scare during the international break when he was unable to feature in Scotland's UEFA Nations League clash against Slovakia last Sunday due to a hamstring problem.
