we've had good discussions with me and the club but what the future holds I am not sure.

"Then I will try to come back in the best possible shape for pre-season and then we'll see what the future holds when these decisions come."

On Liverpool's approach to refreshing the squad, Robertson reflected: "I think at any big club you always have to keep moving, the club always moves forward and I think you've also seen other big clubs like Manchester City have been very active early doors in the window.

"I know we've only got Jeremie Frimpong through the door so far but it looks as though one or two others are going to be close from what we can see..

"The club have identified certain positions where they want to get new blood in, it looks like players we're linked to are all younger players and they are all exciting players as well.

"So when you play for a big club like Liverpool you expect challenges, you expect competition and I have always faced that, everyone here has faced that in their own positions and I expect nothing less.

"I want the club to be ambitious, they are doing that and wherever we fit into that, if we're happy with our role, we stay and we do it and if not then I am sure there will be a few out the door as well

But you know, that's the nature of football and it's one of the biggest clubs in the world and we keep moving."

Robertson has praised the skills of transfer target Florian Wirtz, with Liverpool still in negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen.

A bid has been placed for the German international, with discussions continuing over additional payments that could push the deal beyond the current British record.

"He was excellent against us (when Scotland played Germany at last summer's European Championship), I do remember that and I remember that game was extremely tough for us," Robertson recalled.

"He was excellent, he was the one causing us problems, in the half-spaces, running in behind, so I haven't seen too much of him but I have played against him and that was enough for me to see he was going to be a top player.

"Obviously we (Liverpool) played Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League as well and we dominated that game a bit more (won 4-0) and made it difficult but certainly in the German team against us, he was excellent.

"We're certainly linked with him, that is for sure, you can't miss it and not see it
