Andy Robertson transfer stance becomes clear after ‘talks started’ with La Liga giants

With one year left on his contract and Liverpool close to signing Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, the Scottish left-back has landed on Atletico Madrid’s radar — hard.

The La Liga club, led by Diego Simeone, have reportedly made Robertson their top target to fill a problem spot on the left side of defense.

And while the Reds still value their No.26 highly, things might not be so straightforward this summer.

At 31, Robertson is one of Liverpool’s most experienced players, but also one of their top earners.

With his deal ending in 2026 and new signings incoming, the club may face a tough call: keep their trusted full-back, or cash in now while there’s still a fee to be made.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Atletico see Robertson as the ideal fit: “Atletico Madrid’s top target at left-back is Andy Robertson, appreciated internally as ideal candidate.”

But Romano also added a reality check: “Not an easy deal, as Liverpool rate him highly even with Kerkez due to join the club soon.”

Robertson himself isn’t giving much away.

Speaking after the season ended, he said: “We’ve had good discussions, me and the club, but what the future holds, I’m not sure… I can’t look too far ahead, I never have done that so I’m not going to start doing that now.”

It’s clear Robertson isn’t pushing for a move, but he’s also not ruling anything out.

The thought of linking up in Spain with close friend Trent Alexander-Arnold, who just joined Real Madrid, could be tempting — especially with a spot in the Scotland squad for the 2026 World Cup on his mind.

As per the same reports, Robertson is now keen on joining Atletico Madrid this summer.

Atleti are still weighing their options.

Robertson offers experience, leadership, and a trophy cabinet that includes the Premier League and Champions League.

If Liverpool’s summer reshuffle gathers steam, this could be a case of “Robbo out, Kerkez in.” But for now, the Scot isn’t throwing in the towel — or the armband.
