Florian Wirtz’s arrival at Anfield has sparked excitement not only among the fans but also within the Liverpool squad.

As Fabrizio Romano reported, the deal between the clubs has been finalised at around €150 million with add-ons, and Wirtz is expected to undergo his medical at Anfield on Friday.

The arrival of the midfielder on Merseyside could impact the tactics of Liverpool boss Arne Slot as well.



He may put the young player in a number 10 role as the main creator with Alexis Mac Allister.

Slot could experiment with a four-man midfield, featuring Gravenberch and Szoboszlai in deeper roles and Mac Allister and Wirtz ahead of them.

Although things will become clearer when the pre-season begins, Liverpool will face Preston North End on Sunday, July 13, 2025, and Slot will likely begin figuring things out from that match.

The Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has now opened up about his position and mindset ahead of the new season.

When asked whether he’s afraid of Wirtz’s arrival, the 24-year-old responded confidently: “No, no.”

The Premier League-winning midfielder added: “Well, if you say that my situation will be made more difficult, then let’s wait and see what happens after pre-season.

In the end, you might be right, but I don’t give up my place that easily and I think he knows that getting into a Premier League-winning team takes work.”

He further said: “Of course, if they buy a player for €150 million, likely, they won’t keep him on the bench, but then we have to find the opportunity for the two of us to play together.”

Pre-season matches will be key in deciding the starting eleven for the 2025/26 season, and Szoboszlai is aware of this.

There’s a strong possibility he could play in the number 8 role at Anfield, just like he did in the final matches of the 2024/25 season.
