Ange Postecoglou has saved Evangelos Marinakis following his appointment as Nottingham Forest manager due to one of his attributes.

Postecoglou replaced Nuno Espirito Santo at the City Ground, returning to Premier League management just three months after being sacked by Tottenham.

It has been a difficult start to life at the City Ground for the Australian, who is yet to taste victory in any of his first three games in charge.

Forest were beaten 3-0 by Arsenal before drawing 1-1 with Burnley, while also being dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Championship side Swansea City in between.

Despite his poor start, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Postecoglou has one quality that is working to the advantage of Marinakis.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Postecoglou’s “big personality” is distracting the media from the controversial sacking of Espirito Santo.

Nuno had a very public falling out with Marinakis after disagreements over recruitment strategy, which led to his dismissal.

Wyness added that Postecoglou has dominated the headlines, rather than everybody dwelling on the past.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “The whole Nuno situation seems to just be something in the rear view mirror now.

He’s been able to distract a lot of the press and move the headlines onto him going forward, rather than everybody just dwelling on the Nuno situation.

“Ange and Forest seem to have got themselves settled pretty quickly.

They’ve just now got to start getting the results.”

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest could come up against Espirito Santo very soon as Premier League clubs add him to their managerial shortlists, sources have told Football Insider.

Marinakis and Nuno held “crisis talks” at the City Ground in the hours before his sacking, and the 51-year-old won’t be short of offers for a quick return to the top-flight.

Sources say that clubs across the Premier League and Europe have placed Nuno high on the lists of replacements for their own managers, several of whom are already under pressure in the early stages of the campaign.

It means that Forest could realistically come up against their former boss at some point this season.
