Anthony Elanga and Dominik Szoboszlai have shown their appreciation to Leeds’ latest signing as the pair go head-to-head with Liverpool visiting Newcastle this weekend.

It was a dream opening for Daniel Farke‘s side as they triumphed in a 1-0 victory over Everton under the lights of Elland Road.

A debatable James Tarkowski handball handed Lukas Nmecha a penalty which was cooly converted as Leeds bagged their first three points of the campaign.

As the window edges closer to finishing, the German boss has been solidifying his squad with more signings as the Yorkshire outfit look to stay up this season.

Posting on the club’s Instagram account (21 August), Leeds announced the arrival of Noah Okafor from AC Milan.

Captioned: “Noah Okafor is Leeds!” the 25-year-old Swiss footballer joined on a four-year deal for £18million (BBC Sport).

Both Elanga and Szoboszlai welcomed the latest addition to the Premier League by liking the post, even as the pair prepare to face each other at St James’ Park on Monday (25 August), in a much-anticipated clash played out in the shadow of the Alexander Isak transfer saga.

Football Insider verdict

The last two seasons have seen a worrying trend of newly promoted side heading straight back down to the second-tier of English football.

Considering how competitive the Premier League continues to be, I do think the newest batch of survival hopefuls have learnt from the mistakes of those who have stumbled before them.

Sunderland and Leeds in particular have been spending large in order to bolster their squad to contend with the big boys.

Moreover, with the likes of West Ham, Brentford and Everton all faltering, there is an increased chance the new boys could rub shoulders with the some of the top-flight’s established elite.

I’m eager to see what the promoted teams can continue to bring and the signing of the talented Okafor shows the Peacocks are ready to ruffle some feathers this year.

However, I still do think at least one new arrival will head back down to the second-tier at the first time of asking, yet they will not go down without a fight unlike last year’s abysmal bunch.
