Newcastle players were quick to respond to a new teammate’s message as they completed preparations ahead of a huge clash with Liverpool.
Newcastle began their Premier League campaign with a goalless draw against Aston Villa, but the absence of Alexander Isak overshadowed proceedings.
Isak has continued to push for a move to Liverpool and recently made a damning statement, insisting there is no longer “trust” with the club.
Newcastle, however, denied any suggestion of a prior agreement allowing him to leave, amid multiple failed attempts to recruit a striker this window.
That ongoing saga risks detracting from what has otherwise been a strong summer of business for Howe’s men.
Newcastle have signed Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale, Jacob Ramsey and Malick Thiaw, with the latter sharing his excitement ahead of Monday’s meeting with Liverpool (25 August) in the Premier League.

Thiaw did not feature in Newcastle’s opening fixture against Aston Villa, but the defender was in high spirits as he shared his latest message on social media.

The German centre-half posted several training pictures alongside the caption: “Looking forward for St.
James!”
His update drew plenty of reaction from teammates, with Elanga commenting: “Senegal rek”, Sven Botman leaving a heart emoji and William Osula calling him a “machine”.

Thiaw arrived from AC Milan earlier this summer, with Newcastle targeting a number of centre-backs in their bid to strengthen the defence.
Football Insider reported that Newcastle also reignited their interest in Marc Guehi after three failed bids last summer, though the England international remains focused on a move to Liverpool, so the side pivoted to the German defender.
Whether Thiaw starts against Liverpool remains to be seen, but given his importance to Milan last season, Howe will hope he can bring that same influence to St James’ Park.

Newcastle are still pushing to add to their attacking options in the final eight days of the transfer window, regardless of whether Isak departs.
Football Insider revealed that Brentford remain firm on their £50million valuation of Yoane Wissa, with Newcastle’s latest bid of £40m being rejected.
Th striker is pushing for the move, even refusing to train under Keith Andrews in an attempt to force the transfer through, but it remains to be seen whether Howe’s side return with an improved offer before the deadline.
