Nottingham Forest had Callum Hudson-Odoi to thank after their hot-tempered 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side travelled to South London after their blockbuster summer on and off the pitch, which has been dominated by court disputes between the two clubs against a backdrop of big spending.

Nottingham Forest have shelled out close to £150million as they prepare to tackle European football for the first time in 29 years, after being elevated to the Europa League in Crystal Palace‘s place by UEFA.

Palace fans took aim at Evangelos Marinakis with a banner depicting the Forest owner and Morgan Gibbs-White to highlight the bad blood between the two clubs, distracing attention from an end-to-end battle on the pitch.

Forest gave second-half debuts to a plethora of new signings as Arnaud Kalimuendo, Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee came off the bench, after their respective moves from Rennes, Ipswich and Man City.

Hutchinson failed to make much of an impact in his cameo, but Hudson-Odoi was key to Forest taking a point back to the East Midlands with a 57th-minute strike teed up by another new signing in Dan Ndoye.

Ndoye has already opened his Nottingham Forest account after arriving to replace Anthony Elanga on the right flank, and Hudson-Odoi now looks set to keep his place despite a plethora of new competition.

Football Insider Verdict

Hudson-Odoi’s place on Espirito Santo’s left flank issecure for now, but the pressure will soon be on from McAtee, Kalimuendo, and potentially others with Forest still in the race for Strasbourg’s Dilane Bakwa.

Even greater changes could also be afoot in the City Ground dugout before long, after Espirito Santo admitted that his and Marinakis’ relationship has deteriorated compared to what it was last season.

Forest fans and players alike would be gutted to see the Portuguese leave after their rise from relegation candidates to Europa League participants, with the likes of Hudson-Odoi hoping for no more upheaval this simmer.
