Alexis Mac Allister on Arne Slot

Argentina might start Alexis Mac Allister in their last World Cup qualifier against Ecuador on Tuesday.

Mac Allister has been carefully managed through the first month of the season after missing the end of the previous campaign and much of pre-season.

But after spending the night as an unused substitute in Argentina’s 3-0 win over Venezuela to kick off the September break, he is now expected to be risked against Ecuador.

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni insisted his midfielder “is fine,” and is likely to start the qualifier despite not being “100 percent fit.”

That could be a concern for Arne Slot and Liverpool, with Mac Allister already forced to miss the 3-2 win over Newcastle at the end of August due to a setback.

After a 3-0 victory over Venezuela on home soil, the game against Ecuador could be Argentina’s last competitive outing before the next international break.

In the Venezuela clash, Scaloni didn’t give Mac Allister any minutes as he opted for a different setup.

But with the World Cup coming closer, he may want to give important squad players some much-needed game time.

Reports suggest that Alexis Mac Allister and Enzo Fernandez are seen as two of the most important names in Scaloni’s midfield plans for the future.

However, while Liverpool’s medical department will stay in constant contact with Argentina’s doctors regarding his health, they cannot restrict Mac Allister’s involvement in upcoming fixtures.
