Although the Reds got most of their transfer targets through the Anfield doors this summer, there was one that just escaped the grasp of Arne Slot and Richard Hughes.
Slot, while speaking in his pre-Burnley press conference, shared an insight into how close Liverpool actually were to getting a deal over the line.

“It would be ridiculous for me to deny that we were close to signing him,” he said.
“It happens in football.
If we can strengthen the team, we never hesitate to do so.”
Now that Liverpool don’t have a free run at signing Guehi, they’re likely to face competition for his transfer.
This means that, not only will Liverpool likely have to offer him more money to convince him to join, but they’ll also have to prove that they can be as dominant as they were last term.
At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but for now, it still seems like the Reds are interested in signing the Englishman.
