Feyenoord boss Arne Slot has become a leading contender to take over from Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool. And the Dutchman has already had his say on the Reds and the job that the German has done.

When Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool back at the end of January, Slot was speculated as being a possible option for the Reds. He was directly asked about the Liverpool job and gave an interesting response.

"What answer can I give that there will be no headlines about it?" he asked. "So next question!" However, in the same press conference, Slot also opened up on his thoughts on Klopp.

"I think it is incredibly impressive that he has been so good at that level for so long, with so much energy for nine years," Slot explained, via Voetbal Primeur. "I see it as a special achievement that you can maintain that level for nine years with so much dedication and passion — especially when you consider how many games we play, let alone how many they play in England."

Slot has previously also spoken about a desire to move abroad and challenge himself in a league away from the Netherlands. The Premier League is the obvious choice for him, though he rejected Spurs last summer.

"My next step will not be a club in Holland," Slot said in May 2023, via Sky Sports. "If that is my next step, then I've failed completely. The normal next step will be to go abroad and I've always said the best league in the world is the Premier League."

Liverpool.com says: There are similarities between how Slot plays and how Klopp has set Liverpool up, which has probably been a key determinant in him being high up on the Reds' shortlist. After all, why would you want to go for something completely different when A) this system works and B) you already have the players to excel like that?

Liverpool has been guided by the data available to Michael Edwards and the group of people tasked with identifying the best possible Klopp successor.

It should be no surprise that Slot scores highly.
