Arne Slot has been accused of sounding "entitled" by Simon Jordan after he bemoaned Liverpool's inability to create chances against a Burnley team who sat in following their narrow 1-0 win at Turf Moor on Sunday.

The Reds made it four wins from four in the Premier League so far this term by beating the newly promoted Clarets.

But they were largely frustrated by a dogged Burnley performance, with Scott Parker's side going agonisingly close to holding the champions to a draw before a moment of madness from Hannibal Mejbri gifted Liverpool a 95th minute penalty.

Mohamed Salah converted his spot-kick to spare Liverpool's blushes, with Slot going on to say post-match that his team struggled to create good chances against an opponent who had "11 players in their 18-yard box".

But those comments have not gone down well with Jordan, who has slammed the Dutchman for making such a "ridiculous observation".

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Crystal Palace chairman said: “I listened to Slot the other day, who I like, talking about Burnley and I thought: 'Who do you think you are?' [Slot said] Burnley are very difficult to play against - a side that banks up and doesn't give us any space.

“Oh, Burnley's job was to make it easy for you!

It was to open the game up so they can get spanked, so you go home happy with the fact you've won 5-0.

“I thought it was a ridiculous observation, entitled outlook.”

Although Slot has been slammed for his verdict on Burnley's style by Jordan, the former Feyenoord boss did caveat his comments with praise for how effective the approach was and also insisted that he was not speaking about Liverpool's opponents negatively.

The Reds boss said: “It’s, by the way, [a] very good that they do this because they’ve almost got a point, so I’m not saying anything negative about it, I’m just trying to explain how difficult it is against a Premier League team because they are very good players as well.

“If they defend with all of them back and they hardly try to bring the ball out from the back because the goalkeeper every time plays long, and we don’t score from a set-piece.

“Then the only thing you can score from is open play – and open play is quite difficult if you have to outplay 11 players in their own 18-yard box.”
