Liverpool full-back Jeremie Frimpong has suffered a hamstring injury and will be sidelined until after the upcoming international break, missing key fixtures against Newcastle United and Arsenal.
Frimpong was taken off around the 60-minute mark during Liverpool's Premier League opener, a 4-2 victory against Bournemouth, due to concerns raised by the medical staff about a hamstring issue. Head coach Arne Slot confirmed that the decision to substitute Frimpong was fully supported by the medical team, preventing further damage that could have caused an even longer absence.
Slot expressed confidence in Frimpong’s recovery, citing the player’s strong injury record throughout his career at Celtic and Bayer Leverkusen. Although this injury is a setback, it is not expected to affect his long-term availability significantly.
In the meantime, Liverpool’s options at right-back are limited. Fellow defender Conor Bradley, who had been out due to injury himself, has returned to training but is not expected to be immediately available. Another option is Joe Gomez, who is being managed carefully as he returns from injury; his fitness will be assessed before selection decisions are made.
Slot acknowledged the challenge of preparing for injuries in this specific position, noting that the squad cannot realistically maintain multiple right-backs simultaneously, although the team currently has three left-backs available.
