Alan Shearer believes 25-year-old world-class Alexander Isak will only get better with age, as Liverpool remain keen to recruit the Newcastle superstar.
The Swedish striker is thought to be valued at around £150million.
Despite shelling out a potentially British record transfer fee for Florian Wirtz and strengthening key areas with the acquisitions of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike, a move for Isak is still on the table.
Arne Slot's Reds saw an opening £110m bid rejected for the Swede last week, and it remains unconfirmed whether they will return with an improved offer.
The Magpies are standing firm, but Isak himself is unsettled.
Shearer, a legend on Tyneside, had a sit-down with Isak in January and came away from the chat believing that, though he is already world-class, the 25-year-old will continue to get better and better – spelling good news for Liverpool if they can complete what is a complex deal.
"He's like an assassin, the way he puts chances away, but what I really liked from talking to him is that you can tell he is still looking for ways to improve his game at the age of 25," Shearer began back in January, speaking to Isak for the BBC.
"I feel that Isak has put himself into the 'world class' category now, with his performances for Newcastle over the past two seasons.

"Along with Mohamed Salah at Liverpool and Manchester City's Erling Haaland, he is one of the three standout forwards we have got in the Premier League.
"I remember talking to Isak this time last year [2023], and Howe and his assistant Jason Tindall walked in and said one of the things he could do better at was tap-ins, those kind of two or three-yard finishes where you are just in the right place at the right time.
"Isak felt the same way and he has clearly worked on that, in terms of his positioning and where you need to be to get on the end of balls into the box.

"As he says himself, small details can change a lot," Shearer continued.
You can understand why he keeps getting better and better as a player."
The Isak deal remains ambitious, even after he informed Newcastle that he wished to explore his options away from the club and missed their recent pre-season tour of Asia.
One factor that may determine whether he remains at or leaves St.
RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko is the current frontrunner.

However, the latest news involving the Slovenian is that he is open to joining both Newcastle and Manchester United, who have long held an interest in him, though German outlet BILD report that Sesko would prefer a move to Old Trafford.
