Arne Slot is the new name being linked to Liverpool. The Feyenoord boss has risen to become one of the favorites with UK bookmakers to succeed Jürgen Klopp.

The 45-year-old has caught the eye with his attacking brand of football over the past few years, earning himself comparisons with Pep Guardiola. He led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last season, and could add the KNVB Cup (Dutch cup) to his collection this year.

He’s now seemingly caught the eye of Liverpool fans. Sky Bet has Slot listed as the third favorite to succeed Klopp this summer, behind Rúben Amorim and Roberto De Zerbi.

The development comes amid the ECHO’s claim that a ‘shock’ left-field appointment has not been ruled out. Liverpool is said to still be in the vetting process as it looks for a candidate.

If Slot is one of those names being vetted, there’s every chance he would be open to the opportunity. The Feyenoord boss has already earmarked the Premier League as a destination for his next job.

"My next step will not be a club in Holland," he said last year (via Sky Sports). "If that is my next step, then I've failed completely. The normal next step will be to go abroad and I've always said the best league in the world is the Premier League."

Slot has been linked with the Premier League before. Last summer, he was touted as an option for Tottenham before signing a new deal at Feyenoord, having also been linked with Leeds United earlier in 2023.

And he has already addressed the possibility of becoming Liverpool manager this year. Asked back in January about succeeding Klopp, Slot wasn’t prepared to give anything away.

“What answer can I give that there will be no headlines about it? So next question!,” Slot said, via Voetbal Primeur.

Speaking about Klopp, Slot added: “I think it is incredibly impressive that (Klopp) has been so good at that level for so long, with so much energy for nine years. I see it as a special achievement that you can maintain that level for nine years with so much dedication and passion.

“Especially when you consider how many games we play. Let alone how many they play in England.

“As a fan, you think it’s a shame. He has given Liverpool and football fans fantastic football for years. I hope that he will not enjoy his rest for too long. It is a shame if these types of coaches are not constantly on the sidelines, because they give you a lot of fun.”

Liverpool.com says: Slot certainly seems to be a name to keep an eye on. He has enjoyed a lot of success in the Netherlands over a short space of time, including in his first job at AZ Alkmaar.

Whether he is one of the left-field managers Liverpool might consider remains to be seen. Amorim remains the favorite at the moment, but the club looks as though it won’t leave any stone unturned in its search.
