Liverpool’s Premier League title celebrations took a slight hit at Stamford Bridge.
The champions were beaten 3-1 by a Chelsea side still fighting for a Champions League spot.
But the result itself didn’t sting as much as what it exposed.
The match was more than just a lap of honour for the Reds.
It was a chance for some of the fringe players to show they belong.
It was also a reminder that the hard part comes after winning—staying on top.
Arne Slot made several changes to his starting eleven.
It was expected, given the title was already wrapped up.
Is this what the future looks like for Liverpool?
Slot didn’t dodge these thoughts.
In fact, he hinted at what could be a busy summer.
After the defeat, Slot focused on the team’s reaction and the bigger picture.
“If you look at how we reacted after being 2-0 down, we came back and we never gave up,” he said.
“Our fans didn’t give up.”
“Playing against a good team like Chelsea, you can’t afford a lot and that’s what we saw today.”
“It’s always good to see some fringe players playing now with starters.
Now to see them playing with the other ones, it gives us insights.”
On whether those fringe players were playing for their Liverpool futures, he said, “They deserve to play these games because they have trained so hard this season.”
“Every time they did so well so that’s why I think they deserved to play this game.”
“We don’t judge them only on this game, we judge them every day on the training ground and in the moments that they play for us.”
Slot also spoke on the upcoming transfer window.
“It’s already a big summer because we extended Virgil and Mo and for large parts of the season, I don’t think everyone expected that.”
“For us to keep them is a big thing.
I’ve said already that I am happy with the squad we have.”
“We will see what the summer brings but sometimes it can be good to bring fresh energy.”
“It has already been a good summer and we won the league.”
“Only if we see someone on the market who can improve us.”
And on the defeat, he offered perspective.
“A wise man once said nothing good comes from winning a football game and I have to agree with him.”
“The way we lost is more positive, I think.”
“It was against a great Chelsea team, great squad.”
“Maybe we missed that little bit which we usually have?
We missed a few percentages to get that result.”
Liverpool fans know the summer will be important.
Slot does too.
