"He then went to the national team [Sweden] and only played there for 15-20 minutes."

Slot continued to plan out when Isak could make his Liverpool debut, saying: "We think that in a week where we play three games in seven days, this is the best lead-up for him to be available against Atletico Madrid."

So, it appears Isak is set for his first minutes in a Reds shirt in their Champions League league phase opener at Anfield.

But it's unlikely that he will be playing full games for at least a few more weeks, as he works back to full fitness.

When asked how long it may be until Isak can play regularly, Slot admitted: "That's always difficult to say.

"But that you do with proper training sessions during the week, now we hardly have any training sessions with the team because we play three games in seven days.

"So, he's where he would be on the second or third week of pre-season, I would say, so able to hopefully play during the week 45 minutes or more.

"Another player who wasn't available for team training for a long time was [Yoane] Wissa.

"That tells you how difficult the balance is for a player who has missed team sessions for such a long time."

Liverpool face Atletico Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday, September 17, in the Champions League.

It's their first game of the 2025/26 campaign and Isak has been tipped to make his debut in that fixture.
