Arne Slot is hopeful that Liverpool fans will give Trent Alexander-Arnold a warmer reception ahead of his Anfield finale this weekend after the outgoing England star was booed in his last home game.

Alexander-Arnold, 26, confirmed at the start of the month he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of his current contract, with the Reds academy graduate poised to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Despite explaining the reasons behind his exit in a heartfelt video on social media, Alexander-Arnold was booed by a large portion of Liverpool fans after being brought on as a second half substitute by Slot in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal a fortnight ago.

Liverpool will round off their campaign against Crystal Palace on Sunday on an afternoon where they will be officially coronated as Premier League champions - and Slot is hoping he can 'influence' supporters into holding off the boos when it comes to Alexander-Arnold, who will make his final appearance in a Liverpool shirt.

When he was asked what reception he hoped Alexander-Arnold would get when collecting his Premier League medal on Sunday, Slot told BBC Sport: "I hope the same for every other player that contributed to us winning the league, that they will get the reception every player deserves.

"All have worked so hard, not only this season, but throughout their careers to achieve something like this.

They did this for themselves, but partly also driven by our fans.

It would be fantastic, if it's only going to be a positive moment for everyone at the club, and Trent is part of that.

Alexander-Arnold has yet to publicly address the reception he received two weeks ago, although several Liverpool stars have been quizzed about the boos directed at their team-mate.

The majority have remained diplomatic, but Mohamed Salah insisted fans were wrong to boo Alexander-Arnold.

I was surprised because it is not how we act as Liverpool fans.

The fans have been harsh with him.

It shouldn’t be like this and I hope it will change in the next game - Brighton or the last game of the season - because he deserves the best farewell leaving the club.
