Gary Lineker has gained a new perspective on Liverpool manager Arne Slot following the dramatic Merseyside derby.

The Reds were dealt a late blow at Goodison Park when James Tarkowski's 98th-minute equaliser secured a draw for Everton.

Mohamed Salah's 73rd-minute goal looked set to clinch a 2-1 victory for Liverpool, but Tarkowski's volley ensured David Moyes' team shared the spoils, triggering wild celebrations for the final ever Merseyside derby at Goodison.

Amidst the home side's jubilation, a scuffle near the away end between Everton's Abdoulaye Doucoure and Liverpool's Curtis Jones resulted in both players receiving second yellow cards from referee Michael Oliver.

Lineker hadn't previously witnessed this aspect of the Liverpool boss, but he believes Slot's reaction showcased his competitive spirit.

"It's the first time I've seen Slot show a little bit, get a bit [frustrated]," Lineker said on the Rest is Football podcast.

It's bound to affect you, isn't it?"

An earlier statement from the Premier League said Slot was set to face a two-game suspension due to "offensive, insulting, or abusive language" directed at the referee.

It is yet to be determined if Slot will be on the sideline for Liverpool's next match against Wolves on Sunday.

The Liverpool head coach previously faced a one-match ban during the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Southampton in December after accumulating three yellow cards.

Regardless of any new sanctions for Slot, Lineker suggested that the draw with Everton is unlikely to significantly impact the title run-in, as Liverpool maintain a seven-point lead.

"I suppose in some ways it's hard to see someone chasing them down, a team that can be consistent enough to do that, given the points deficit," Lineker explained.
