Fantasy football players were furious with Arne Slot after his double substitution during Liverpool's Premier League opener against Bournemouth on Friday.

The Liverpool boss named four new signings in his starting XI for the first match of their title defence at Anfield.

And after 37 minutes one of those signings, new £79million striker Hugo Ekitike, broke the deadlock to hand Liverpool the lead.

But it was Slot's decision to take off two other newbies - full-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez - which drew the ire of fantasy football enthusiasts.

Had Frimpong and Kerkez been on the field beyond the 60-minute mark, both would have been eligible to receive points for keeping a clean sheet while they were on the field.

However, Slot pulled the trigger just 30 seconds before, substituting both players before the hour to throw on Andy Robertson and Wataru Endo.

Liverpool ended up conceding less than four minutes later, when a breakaway move saw David Brooks cross for Antoine Semenyo who reduced the deficit with a close-range finish.

But by then the complaints had already started rolling in from angry fantasy football managers irate at missing out on some precious points.

One fan wrote on X: "@OfficialFPL Kerkez and Frimpong were subbed off in the 60th minute, hand over our clean sheet points or we riot."

Another fumed: "Arne Slot bringing off Jeremie Frimpong in 60th minute so he misses out on a clean sheet bonus is insane work..

...and I hate it."

Semenyo soon added a second for Bournemouth to draw them back level at 2-2 after another breakaway goal, much to the delight of some fantasy football fans who were eager to see Slot fail.

"This is what you get for subbing Frimpong off seven seconds before he got me a clean sheet in FPL SLOT!!!" one said, as another wrote: "That’ll teach Slot to rob me of my Frimpong clean sheet points!"

Slot would have the last laugh, though - and with another of his substitutions, too.

Chasing a winner, the Liverpool boss sent Federico Chiesa on after 82 minutes and it was the Italian who proved to be the hero.

After a cross into the box caused chaos amongst Bournemouth's defence, the ball eventually looped up to Chiesa near the penalty spot and the forward volleyed home after 88 minutes to send Anfield into raptures.

Then it was over to Mohamed Salah to wrap up the win in stoppage time as the Egyptian raced onto a loose ball before cutting inside and firing into the bottom corner
